today i took a vacation day -
and drove 3 hours in a rain shower to be at a baby shower for a sweet friend.
it was a wonderful day!
i got to see some dear friends (thanks lisa!) and had a great time visiting and catching-up.
susan, you are going to be a wonderful mother,
and i can't wait to meet your little guy in november.
thanks for spending so much time with me today!

no, i'm not talking about a radio station.
that was ben's temperature this morning at 7am when he woke up crying.
poor little guy!
so our week started out with a dose of tylenol.
a bed of blankets, pillows and a bean bag on the floor.
his favorite kid videos.
apple juice and dry corn pops.
i am thankful i already had a dr appt scheduled this afternoon and the dr was kind enough to take a look at ben too.
looks like it's a couple of days of rest, more tylenol and liquids.
hopefully we'll all be feeling well for thanksgiving.
and no - we still have no idea if baby sister will be here with us by then or not.
she seems to be content where she is for the moment.
after bath tonight we loaded ben up to go drive through our local Christmas light display in the park.
it was a nice way to relax and keep his mind off not feeling well.
(even though i still think it is nice to wait until after Thanksgiving to turn Christmas lights on)
gobble! gobble!

waiting...
not much new here...
just enjoying our time while we wait for baby sister to arrive.
all week i've been thinking "maybe it will be today" - obviously not.
we are kind of hoping she might decide to meet us over the weekend.
ben was born on a saturday and it was so nice!
but she also might surprise us by waiting until after her due date - the 25th.
throughout my pregnancy i've been planning she would arrive early,
because ben came 10 days early.
now i'm starting to think i could be wrong. :) we'll see!

so far this week (a little random)...
i've still been cleaning - or nesting - whichever you prefer.
and i know you are thinking "gee, how many pictures is she going to take of her laundry on the clothesline?"
honestly, i'm not sure.
i may not have the time or money to make our home as perfectly decorated or styled as i would like,
but i can sure CLEAN what i already have.
and that makes me feel good.
for example, these curtains.
definitely not something i would ever choose, but they have been washed, dried in the sunshine and ironed.
and you may think i might be a little obsessive, even for a pregnant lady, but i think i have reason.
i may have told our story before, but we moved into our home just three weeks before ben was born.
i never really had a chance to "nest".
and on top of our recent move to our first home in a new town, where we knew only a handful of people...
jake had started a new job.
jake still had to finish his thesis.
we had been living apart for three months.
we were just learning to live on one income.
we met our family doctor for the first time at ben's first week appointment.
ben and i did not "click" with breastfeeding.
i thought i would be a cloth diaper mama - nope.
i thought i would be a no formula mama - nope.
so even though we completely adored ben and loved being new parents -
we were exhausted, stressed out and overwhelmed with all the "new" things happening in our life.
and i am really trying to do as much as possible to feel differently this time around.
i've had to let some things go (especially after our unexpected six week shower remodel),
but i am still trying to have a clean home, a little food in the freezer and all the baby necessities on hand.
and this time - you'd better believe it consists of disposable diapers and some bottles.
the one thing i know this time around -
things never go quite like you think they will,
and it's best if you can go with the flow,
instead of coming down on yourself for all the things that aren't going like you planned.
the same morning the curtains were drying, ben was busy playing with his construction vehicles,
and i figured - perfect time to clean the back patio and the big living room window.
i have been trying to better about leaving him alone (and i was in the back yard too) for more independent play time, and trying to avoid running over at the first instant i hear "mom!".
well, all was well until i started cleaning the window.
ben decided that his snack (that he had eaten over thirty minutes ago) was not what he had wanted -
even though it is what he originally said he wanted, and he ate the entire fruit bar - no complaints.
once he started with this he would not stop and things went downhill fast!
let's just say we had almost two hours of crying, shouting, and sobbing.
it was ROUGH!
and even though i'm used to the ups and downs of a certain three year old,
this was an extra difficult morning for me.
and i think i may have to blame my friend mandy -
we had just talked on the phone the night before and were discussing parenting.
i think she jinxed me. :) just kidding mandy!
but we survived and made it through lunch and both enjoyed a nice nap.
today was much better
i also decided to click a picture of myself and baby - 36 weeks this friday!
tomorrow looks like...
story time, grocery store, pizza, popcorn and it's the great pumpkin charlie brown (ABC @ 7pm CST).
and i know you are thinking "gee, how many pictures is she going to take of her laundry on the clothesline?"

the last tile
was installed yesterday.
all by my very own husband.
they look AMAZING!
and i can't wait to finish the rest of the bathroom renovation,
but we've decided to finish up the shower/tub project, clean-up,
remove the icky carpet and call that good for now.
with baby coming in about 8 weeks and having already used a month of time on this project, we think it will be best to wait until january to tackle the rest of the bathroom.
we've got plenty of other things to do on the "before baby gets here" list.
so the remaining plan...
grout tonight.
seal tomorrow.
SHOWER on wednesday!!!
this week is looking good so far.
and we just had our 32 week baby appointment this morning.
everything is still looking great.
we are really looking forward to meeting our little girl... but hope she waits another 8 weeks before arriving.

a baby sprinkle
until yesterday i did not know that a baby shower after your first baby is called a baby sprinkle.
i'm not always up on the latest trends, so that's really no surprise.
but whatever it's called it was a wonderful treat when my friends from the library surprised me with one yesterday morning.
i received beautiful baby gifts - many handmade, and all very special.
did i ever mention how much i love books?
even though finding the time to read seems to be the difficult part these days.
L.O.V.E.
i even used to pretend to have a library in our house when i was little and i was the librarian.
and i don't remember if i ever really mentioned it but i had been working at our local library part-time since last december.
but since the beginning of september i have been off the schedule.
we decided it was best with baby arriving in november and the library was changing hours too.
i do miss working there and the friendships i made... but i am happy to be at home full-time again too.
a special thanks to my friends at the library!

friday morning
this morning we were busy...
playing at the park with friends,
going to the grocery store,
and visiting the library.
a nice way to wrap up the week.
along with consuming mass quantities of green olives,
my other guilty pleasure this pregnancy is ice water with LOTS of ice cubes.
not something someone with a history of dental work should probably be munching on.
and yes, we still get ice by filling trays in this house. :)
hope you have a cool holiday weekend.
we are looking forward to a sunday forecast with highs in the upper 70s!!!
maybe fall will arrive soon,
see you next week...

thursday morning
this morning i had my 28 week appointment - all is well with baby girl!
jake was able to stay at home with ben, which made it a little easier.
and since i wasn't busy keeping ben occupied during my appointment, i actually had time to discuss a few things with the doctor.
always puts my mind at ease to ask a few questions - even if this isn't my first pregnancy.
i did have to get the rh factor shot though - not a fun one!
but i'm also a wimp with needles. :)
speaking of needles...
i've also been making a little time for something i really love doing...
stitching by hand.
i don't usually follow any pattern and i don't know a lot of different stitches,
but i really enjoy the simplicity of fabric, thread and a needle.
oh, did you notice - i didn't mention cleaning today either???
maybe i'll start my "room a day" plan again next week...

my little olive
i received this adorable baby girl set - onesie, pants, socks and hat - from a friend last week.
sweet and thoughtful!
it "tickles me pink" to think about our little girl wearing it.
and i think i might have to start calling her "olive" because i am consuming green olives by the jar full.
in fact, it's pretty much a crisis if there are not any in the refrigerator!

favorite (compact stroller)
We are so glad the mornings and evenings are starting to be comfortable again for walking! That leads me to another of our favorites...
July 2009 |
We decided to purchase this stroller after an entire afternoon of shopping for one.
Here are some of the reasons why we chose it...
- Super sturdy construction - you could tell by just pushing it around the store where we "test drove" every compact stroller available.
- The highest weight limit of any comparable stroller (if you can't tell this has always been important to us!).
- Easy to open and close - really!
- Very lightweight - great feature if you have to carry it around at all.
- Compact - fits well in our Honda where finding space can often be challenge.
- Large umbrella shade that keeps it shady and stays open without a problem.
- Breathable fabric that seems to help prevent sweating or overheating. I
- Comfortable height of handles for pushing - this really sold me on the stroller! I didn't feel like I had to hunch over.
I am sure I could keep going, but these are some of the top features that sold us on the stroller. It was a little more of an investment, but we use it all of the time and are still completely happy with it. Happy strolling!

back to work
Way too much time has gone between postings! My goodness - I just don't know where the time goes. I am still working hard on my sewing projects and starting my shop, but I haven't been quite as productive lately. I think I can say this is mostly due to the fact I haven't been feeling well, and this is because we are happy to announce we are expecting. We are extremely excited and look forward to becoming a family of four in the fall!
It's also funny that I was pregnant just two years ago with our first, but I have forgotten just how tired and sick I could feel. Just trying to remember it's only temporary and stick with my goals for my little shop. I know it will happen - and soon.
I also wanted to try my hand at posting photos so I thought I'd start with a project from last fall - Halloween costume for Ben. It was really fun and easy, and I was happy with the results. Here is SUPER BEN... (or Super Baby)
